10Base-T

The most common type of Ethernet local area network (LAN). The 10Base-T provides data transmission speeds up to 10 Mbps (10Base-T).
Designed to function with common telephone cable, although Category 5 wiring is typically used. Each workstation connects to a 10Base-T hub (100 meter maximum segment length), and each has its own 10Base-T card. Therefore, if one machine crashes, it will not crash the entire network.
See also Ethernet.

100Base-T

This type of Ethernet card (or NIC) is similar to the 10Base-T, but sends data at a much faster rate of 100 Mbps.
See also Ethernet.
